Red Squirrel Day

Got up. Actually got up fairly early for a Saturday. Now I didn’t have to do any shopping. So I popped the dog in the car an we shot up to Almondsbury. Found a great fully enclosed and completely empty field, so let her off her lead. She ran off at an incredible speed. Thankfully every time I called her back she came though. She’s a hell of a mover, she can really shift.

Came back and had some lunch. I loaded up the GPS with sites around Westbury-On-Trym. I then headed over and parked in Henleaze. There were no sites near here so I headed for Westbury. Now last week when looking around this area I noticed that the junior school fate was on this weekend. This is Westbury-On-Trym C of E E school. It’s now actually an academy. I will have left this school thirty years ago in September. It seemed somewhat smaller, may be I’ve just got fatter. It’s also grown two port a-cabins, which are rather ugly. I went into one of the class rooms, the old black boards have been replaced by a projector. It just seemed all so small, thinking we used to get about forty kids in there. Even the field where I’d spent endless football sessions just walking up and down looked about the size of my lawn. I bought a tenners worth of raffle tickets on a stall, I think it was thirty tickets. I one a whole load of tat, bottle of wine, candle, wallet, some sowing kit and some tea bags. I then sat down for an hour and watched some really badly organised tug-of-war. I bought a tenners worth of tickets for the main raffle, there was an iPod shuffle up for grabs. I then went and bought another load of raffle tickets, I won more wine and candles. Then when the main draw was announced, I didn’t win the iPod, but I did win two prizes (the only person to do so), I won a months trial membership of David LLoyd and a meal for two at the White Lion, so I think I made a profit. It was a fun afternoon I guess, it just seemed to be much better organised when I was there as a kid. Still, fun memorise. I imagine all the teachers who were there when I was there are all past now or in their 80’s. I never did get to any caches.

I came back home, had a coffee and then re-partitioned the network, I’ll rabbit about that tomorrow.

Okay, must admit, I do like a little man doing the shopping for me

Still on shaders, the good news I’ve finished the first pass on the compiler, it now produces a shader binary output that I can reload. So more fun work on it next week.

Mid-morning, doorbell goes (dog removed to garden) and ‘Tim’ appears. ‘Tim’ appears far too jolly. But brings three trays of shopping which was ordered online. All I have to do is put it away. I’ve paid for six months of deliveries, I have a feeling I may be extending this. One thing though I will have to peruse the shopping list more carefully, as Jamie has access to it. This I found out to be by mistake as I started putting away a small ‘Angel Cake’ in the cupboard, together with a whole selection of ‘cheese nibbles’. Talking of which I forgot to order cheese.

Walked the dog. Went to Body Pump. Came back and did some more work. Pizza and bath time. Good week, lots of good work done.

Oi!, Don’t you go interfering with my bullocks

Once again work in shader land. It’s all working for the moment so I’m pretty happy with it.

Had a chat with the dog about eastern European politics and how Obama is handling the northern Ireland situation. I then persuaded her that she was allowed to sleep on a bed in my office and she didn’t have to go hiding downstairs in her box. It did take a few biscuits, but she got the hang of it.

Been invited to a retro games day next month, sounds like fun if it goes ahead.

Vanished with my GPS again, was walking on a public foot path when I saw three lads running, followed by a farmer on a quad bike shouting, ‘don’t you go interfering with my bullocks’. I hate to think what they were doing. I was hoping he was going to come back and say, ‘Get off my land’, but he didn’t. Found three more caches.

Torture porn night.

It’s baking, which means it will piss down tomorrow

Still working on shaders, snore. Nothing new to report other than I’m closer to finishing than I am to starting now.

Took the dog to daycare, she hates me again. Put in a really full days coding, didn’t stop for lunch again so I could get an evening out.

Vanished off with my GPS and found another three caches, that’s 34 total now. Even found one in a phone box, can’t remember the last time I was in one of those.

Came back and booked the Turkey holiday. Got a ‘superior sea view suit’. Which means it will be shit. It was cheaper to go to Japan for two weeks. Still, free beer and food. And it’s on it’s island. It’ll be shit.

Another day over, another day older

Still working on shaders, seems to be taking forever but getting there. It’s just lots of organising odd data. The fun stuff will start in a week or so. But very busy on it. Didn’t take a lunch break today so I could get an early start in the evening.

Went out with my GPS, found another four caches. A very warm and nice evening, was out for about three hours. Still haven’t sorted a holiday yet, but booked the time off from work.

The curse of TripAdvisor

Today work wise was again in shader land, not much more I can really talk about. Megan asked if I approved of her new boyfriend, I said I did but would need to see more cock shots to make a better decision.

Walked the dog. Listened to a huge amount of iPlayer radio, okay so basically it was Sunday’s Radio 2 schedule, with ‘Dan & Phil’ from Radio one, not that I think their show is that good, but they are very cute.

Went to Body Combat, was fun but warm. Came back and did some more work. Jamie has finally sorted his holiday dates out, so then the quest to book a holiday. Now, this is always a bit of a challenge. Okay, so the easy bit first, ‘Turkey’. That narrows it down to about 17,000 hotels. So how do you choose one? Well, that’s where the dear TripAdvisor comes in, you just find the best one, although of course there isn’t one. You can get the top rated hotel with 3,000 people who rate it excellent, then there will be two people who hate it. It’s those two reviews which you will think on. Anyway, I’ve found one which is rated top, hated by half a dozen people, liked by hundreds and costs a fortune. I’m sure it’ll be shit. But I can fly from Bristol at a sensible time.

Lots of work to do this week, very busy. Try and get a fairly early start on it tomorrow, then if the weather is nice I can vanish with my GPS.

Life laundry

Started off this morning, actually correction, started off this afternoon with a bit of sanding. The weather was shit but wasn’t really in the mood. Still, made a good effort and now have two lengths of coving near enough done. I reckon another few hours to finish the rest. Then I need to really get lots of dust sheets in this week as it will be a fairly big wall sanding job coming up and that will make a hell of a mess.

Had a clean up and a shower. Then off to Jamie’s dads. We met Megan’s new boyfriend, he’s as plump as the rest of us. Nice chap. We ate lamb, well I picked at it, not a lamb fan. We made small talk and politely all left at the same time. We’ll probably meet up with him again for sure.

I really must sort some shit out. I want to buy a new AV amp, but I have a cabinet full of stuff that isn’t even switched on, so I feel a huge ebay session coming up shortly and get rid of some of the crap.

27 caches found, 12 months worth of email lost

Got up late. But oddly no weird dreams, which is a shame I quite like those. Sasha just sat by the front door after she rose off her bed. We went for a rather damp walk, she didn’t seem to bothered. I went to Tesco’s. It should hopefully be the last time. We got sent a voucher for ‘dot com’, basically you get twelve quid off an order over sixty plus we get six months of any time delivery for thirty quid. Plus all the usual staff discounts.

Had lunch, very late in the afternoon. Then ventured out over to Henleaze to get some crickets. I filled up the GPS with a few more geocaches. Searched for four and found three so pretty happy about that. That’s twenty seven now, I’ve set myself a target of one hundred by the end of the year.

Came home, was about to do the accounts, but decided to jam my willy in Jamie’s gob. He said this was rather impolite, or rather he gagged, ‘thts vaaaie noot ice’, or something like that. He got on with it anyway. I then did the accounts. Bought car tax. Did the Tesco shopping for next week. Tried to look for an email on the laptop, after vast amounts of searching I appear to have a lost years worth of email from October 2011 to October 2012, which just happened to contain the one I was after. It’s probably lurking somewhere. So decided to back up the laptop, last time that was done was April 2012…serves me right. Anyway all sorted now. Off to make a curry.

The dog and I have made up, but still on dodgy ground

Work again was all about shaders, the Effects 11 method appears to have paid off so all coming along swimmingly although there is still tons to do on it. I reckon it will probably take the whole of next week as well before I get there.

My turn to walk the dog. I spent quite some time trying to stop her walking in front of me, but to the side. Almost got there. She actually behaved fairly well, until she came face to face with her nemesis ‘Molly’. I don’t think Sasha has a problem with Molly, rather Molly has a problem with Sasha and goes ape shit when they get within a few feet of each other. Thankfully the owner is a nice chap and we always steer clear of each other. We passed ‘tiea’ the husky without any problems, I was more concerned she was going to leap up at his little girl.

Went to pump. Uneventful, although the gym changing rooms are turning into quite a pleasurable sight for the eyes. There seems to be a mass influx of collage students, I must go earlier next time and spend a good half hour changing socks.

Well that’s it for the working week. Was going to a BBQ tomorrow but Jamie is working late and the weather looks a tad shit, plus we’ve eaten burgers every weekend for a month. And Jamie eats too much fried food. I think I may do one of my Chinese curries tomorrow, haven’t had one of those in a while.

Bath and wine time. Good weeks work though, tough going but thoroughly enjoyed it.

I’m sure the dog hates me

Still in shader land work wise. But made an odd decision to go with a DX11 parser rather than GL. I think it’s the right decision, time will tell. Very busy anyway.

Rotten weather. Haven’t really gone anywhere lunchtime all week as it’s been crap.

Finished mid evening so off I popped with my GPS again. Over towards Patchway, looked for four, found two. Spent about ten minutes hanging around right by the M5, probably looked rather dodgy feeling up a metal fence.

I’m sure the dog hates me, she avoids me all day and sits by the front door. She seems to refuse to sit on the couch with me unless I have food. She did fall asleep on me earlier though when I was sat on Jamie’s couch. Although Jamie was there as well, I’m sure they are having an affair. All he does is spoon that bloody dog.
