Gromit Unleashed

So started this morning with Bran Flakes and coffee which is always a good combination. I harnessed up the dog and off we set to our field in Almondsbury. She had a nice run around off lead, came back and she was fairly knackered.

Printed out the ‘Gromit Unleashed’ trail map. These are eighty statues of dogs all decorated by different artists spread around Bristol (except the one on Padding Station). I started off with the one just down the road, then parked up at Cotham and did another forty-seven of them by foot. I was walking for the best part of seven hours and got quite sun-burnt. Still, good fun.

Came back about 9pm. Uploaded all the photos to facebook. Then did the accounts. Had a quick shower and started preparing the pies. Was interrupted as I needed to pick mother up from a wedding. Got back and carried on. We ended up eating at about 1am. Still, they were very good.

I rescued Buzz Lightyear from the living room roof

Today was warm. No actually today was hot. Sarah arrived and picked up the carpet shampooer, the dog almost behaved. Then Mr Tesco arrived and substituted by chili tortilla chips for cheesy ones. I’m sure they are awful. Walked the dog lunchtime, she was fine, enjoyed the sunshine. Came back and ate a chicken salad sandwich. Put the washing on.

I opened the bedroom window and dear Buzz Lightyear made a bid for freedom and dived over the window sill. I then had to get a chair outside and retrieve him off the living room flat roof. Today was working on shaders again, the good news being is they now all build. I’ve still got the fun problem to solve with default parameters though. One for Monday.

Went to the gym and did Body Pump. Was fun, except I think I put more weight on the bar than usual for biceps and now my arms are killing. Came back and loaded up the GPS with caches ready for Sunday. Tomorrow I think I’ll walk the dog over to Almondsbury and then in the afternoon I’ll walk into town and go around the docks and stuff. Cooking tomorrow night, making pies. Need to pick mother up from some wedding.

I lifted up every rock and found bugger all

Cough seems to be subsiding, I did feel somewhat bunged up last night but feeling better now.

Work was guess what, shader related. I reckon one more day and it will all be sorted. There’s one really odd bug in one of the tools at the moment which will take a bit of investigation. Still, all good fun.

Went out this evening and drove to Winterbourne. Searched for about five caches and found two, so not a good turn out. Stung to hell by nettles again. And spent ages picking up rocks and found nothing.

Torture porn night, going for some arty film tonight, I can’t handle Danny Dyer again quite so soon.

Nice evening and five more caches

Got up far too early and took the dog to play group. Went back to bed, but did manage to start work early. Still finishing off shader related items, it’s almost there. Skipped lunch then picked up dog in the afternoon.

Finished off early evening then ventured out off towards ‘Ram Hill’, which is a few miles away. There were five caches in a couple of mile area, managed to get all of them and drop off the travel bugs I had. Almost managed to find another one and spent ages in a church yard looking for another one. Not a bad haul on quite a pleasant evening.

My sinuses are blocking up, but I appear to have stopped coughing now anyway. Probably I need a drink.

The British Grand Prix was actually pretty good

Woke up and actually managed to start work early, well early for me. Got straight on with it and changed something that was annoying me, took until early afternoon to get back to where I was, but I was happier about it. Went out for a quick run then did a second session. Almost there on shaders now, I reckon another day and a half and it should be sorted.

The weather was looking shit but held out as we had a meeting with Kate the dog trainer woman. We took Sasha up to Almondsbury and met there. She brought her two quite elderly but lovely dogs. We let Sasha off her lead and walked across all the fields, she stayed within sight of us and had a great time, no problem with the other dogs at all. Her recall was also pretty good. So we came back and she got a nice bone as a reward, which she’s still having a bash at now.

Watched the Silverstone British Grand Prix, first one I think in many years that’s actually been any good. Lots of overtaking, lots of tyres exploding. I wish they were all like that, well, may be not the tyres exploding, that’s a tad dangerous.

If I knew I would have to wait over two hours to hire a carpet shampoo-er I would have gone somewhere else

So woke up this morning very angry. I wanted to ring up someone and complain about the appalling service. Then I realised that that the service was actually in a dream. For some reason I dreamt about trying to hire a carpet shampoo-er. I had waited over two hours, finally I spoke to someone and they said they would help me, I said I’ll give them twenty minutes and then leave. I ended up leaving, but only after I had recovered my shoes. It was a very strange dream. It was about the highlight of the day though.

Still working on shader stuff, decided this evening I need to do it a slightly different way as I’m just not happy with it. Again, nature of the job, these things happen. Need to sort out default parameters I think as well.

Walked the dog. She barked and went for other dogs a lot, which was rather annoying. Went to the gym and did combat, which was fun and quite tiring, it was very hot in there. Came back and did some more work. Now watching Silverstone Grand Prix qualifier. Will have an early night, want to start fairly early tomorrow.

If I wanted bland food I could get it more locally

So started this morning with sex. Actually no, I started this morning sweating. Followed by more sweating. Still have a chest infection so don’t exactly feel on top of the world. Jamie let the dog out and got me breakfast, he always put’s too much milk on the bran-flakes. I drank the coffee. I then banged away like a road drill on granite for about fifteen minutes, okay, I wasn’t really that into it, just not in the mood. Jamie created a mess and it was all over.

I then got up and cleared up all the dog shit, interleaved with mowing. I mowed the front as well. Had lunch, eggs. Then loaded up the GPS. Headed over to Iron Acton. Found first cache straight away but there were two old biddies gassing right by it so had to wait for them to bugger off. Then spent about half an hour walking round a field in the wrong place. Got back on track and managed to find another seven, not one ‘did not find’, so over fifty now. Also picked up a couple of ‘travel bugs’ that I will need to relocate soon.

Came back, had a shower. Then it was time to head over to ‘The White Lion’ to use the voucher I won at last weeks fate. Haven’t been there for a long time and it’s had a bit of a makeover. Problem being it’s now a chain serving fairly generic shit. I only had to pay six quid which was to be honest about all it was worth. If I wanted to eat bland crap I could do so much closer to home. Still, it was a meal out. Read my trip advisor review for all the gory details.

Must be bath time, I’m stung to crap. Why do all these geocaches have to be behind mile of fucking nettles.

I can be quite generous

So started this morning earlier than I would have liked, thanks to the dog insisting I let her out, followed an hour later by her further insistence that she be fed. I had breakfast and a coffee, so at least I was vaguely coherent (a lot more than I am now that’s for certain). I got up. As I no longer have to do shopping I harnessed up the bitch (the dog not Jamie, he was at work) and we tootled up to Alomondsbury, to her favourite field where she was let off her lead an behaved impeccably. We walked back, she was fairly tiered, two poo’s along the way, the dog that is not me. Got back, I then ventured out, oddly back to Almondsbury where I picked up some firewood after collecting a paper and some cash.

Had lunch. Then ventured out with my GPS. Parked up and picked up some crickets, then moved over to Coombe Dingle. Searched for four and found three, these were all fairly tricky and enjoyable, I’m up to 46 now. I’ll by a t-shirt when I hit 50.

Went over to mothers, where she showed me her leaking shower. I then drove her to Curry’s, I could live without her driving, okay, I didn’t slow down at roundabouts, much to her annoyance, but I took have taken them a hell of a lot faster, we were well within safety limits. I bought her a tumble dryer, she paid for the warranty. Generous? Well, what’s a hundred and fifty quid to me, loose change really on the face of it. It made her day, plus I now get some more nice fruit cake, which to be honest is fairly priceless.

Came back home and did the accounts. I’m actually down this month, probably due to Japan and paying for the deposit on Turkey. Started up the BBQ. Got it all going nicely, took the radio outside, had a few beers, made the dinner. It was all nice. Then retired to the bath, watched ‘Chase & Status’ live streaming on the iPad as I was in the bath. It was fantastic, I really wish I was there to be honest. I’m now sat down about to watch ‘The Rolling Stones’. I’m already completely plastered, well into the Glastonbury spirit.

Then I started coughing

After a very disappointing film last night, that only lasted 25 minutes before I decided it was awful and switched it off, I went to bed. It was called ‘Severance’, I may give it another blast.

Woke up this morning sounding like I was losing a lung. Don’t know where that came from but I hope it pisses off. Working still on shader conversion, it’s one of those tasks where you leave any joy at the door and just get on with it. I’m probably about half way through it, at least it’s a dull job to get on with on Monday.

Walked the dog. She’s coming round to the idea of spending time in my room now. Actually she’s here now, which is pretty good considering Jamie is in his orifice. She does get the odd biscuit in here though. May be it was because we had a nice walk today. See what the weather does tomorrow. Mother wants me to go with her to look at tumble dryers, I’m sure that will be exciting. I may offer to drive as I don’t really want another near death experience, I haven’t got over the last one yet.

Meant to be having a BBQ tomorrow, want to get some firewood from somewhere.

We don’t invent a new wheel, we just change the tyre

So I had every good intention of going out for some good walking this evening. Instead it started pissing down at about 2PM and hasn’t really stopped since, so I haven’t been out at all. This is rather annoying as I now feel fat. I really need to start going running again, but when it’s hot out it’s not very pleasant. Anyway, pump tomorrow at the gym and then hopefully have a more energetic weekend. Shopping being delivered again tomorrow.

Work wise, lots of shader conversion work from one platform to another. I was speaking to colleague about conversion work and said, ‘We don’t invent a new wheel, we just change the tyre’. Which I thought for a Thursday was very deep. It’s true though, as each new platform comes along, you end up doing the same stuff over and over again, just in a slightly different way. Still, it can be quite fun though.

It’s torture porn night, but I think I may go for an episode of ‘En-devour’ first.
