Tyres, more to it than just a piece of rubber

Got up at 6:20 and took Sasha to daycare. Went back to bed. Didn’t start work until 10:45, but still way over time, so no real concern.

Ordered a two hundred quid book on vehicle dynamics. Filled in an expense claim for two hundred quid.

Working on tyre dynamics. More specifically Pacejka tyre models, which is a very fascinating area of physics. It’s all to do with forces generated from tyres. I can’t really go into what I’m working on specifically, but lets just say I’m finding it very interesting.

Big tub of paint arrived.

Picked up the dog.

Did another Japanese unit. That’s something else I’m very pleased with my progress on.

Ate pizza, Jamie decided he wanted to eat something after feeling ill for god knows how long. So had a bath and a couple of cans. I’m slowly beginning to feel better but still a long way from 100%.

Hopefully by the weekend I will have recovered.

Oddly Toolstation doesn’t seem to stock paint stripper, yet Tesco’s does

Today I did feel somewhat better, if not great. I was able to concentrate at least, which was very useful considering I was messing about with physics again. Today it was Coulomb friction models again, this time I did manage to get on top of it though. Knocked all that on the head so tomorrow I can get on with the next bit, which is all to do with slip angles. That will be fun.

Jamie got sent home from work, not because he was a naughty boy but because he was a health hazard. So I walked the dog. Finished fairly early to make up for extra hours. Did some Japanese. Then did a recheck for a dog. Oddly it wasn’t the same dog the lady was down for, communication, wonderful thing. Anyway, the lady and dog were both fine.

Came back, ate salad. Started watching ‘House of cards’ on NetFlix. Not sure yet. May give it another episode, but it’s not really the same without Ian Richardson, “Call me daddy”.

Just for fun my cold is getting worse

Didn’t sleep again last night. Cold appears to have gotten worse, which is lovely. So started work late. Physics again. Sorted out a couple of issues, one is still very much annoying me though.

Walked the dog.

Tried to do some more Japanese, but just couldn’t concentrate.

Think I’ll have something light to eat, then go to bed.

Today I took a leaf out of my mothers book and did some stripping

Didn’t sleep a wink last night, no idea why. Tried sleeping in the guest room, had no effect. Drank a bottle of Smirnoff Ice in about 30 seconds at 5AM, had no effect.

So ended up having breakfast at about 11AM after still not sleeping. Got on with stuff. First cleaned up the last of the kling strip off the last wall, then got on with pain stripping the door. I got through near enough an entire tin of Nitromors and it still isn’t clean. Jamie came down in the afternoon and said, “Hadn’t you better open a window or something?”, they were playing ‘Fly me to the moon’, on the radio, very apt.

Anyway, door is mostly done. I reckon the room will need at least two vats of paint stripper to finish the door and do the skirting boards. It’s a long on going project, but the good news is at least it is on going and not stopped. Little and often…I do very little, often. Anyway, bath, cooking and the first Grand Prix of the season, it only seems like two weeks ago the last one finished.

“Ow, The dog’s paws on my cock”, “Which one?”, “I only have one cock”

So I slept in the spare room last night. No weird domestic, but Jamie was snorting like a train, taking up the entire bed and the dog looked at me in that “Fuck off I’m comfortable” way. So peaceful night was had by me.

Got up later than planned which kind of skewed the day a bit. I rang a few people to try and arrange some dog/cat rechecks. Finally got hold of a women who I’ve been trying to get hold of since about October. She spent ten minutes moaning that none of us cared and she could have been abusing the dog for months etc. etc. Well love, I’m glad you’re happy with the dog and all is well. I hope you got value for money for your ninety quid and all the volunteers at the sanctuary are pleased also. I did visit a cat over in Clifton, he was fine, did what cats mainly do and that’s sleep on a chair. Then I visited a dog up by the gym. Really lovely, settling in nicely with his companion. So some people are happy. I’m glad I spent the best part of three hours of my time and petrol for nothing to make sure all is okay.

Came back and did the accounts. Ordered some phone cable as I really need to reroute that one sooner rather than later. Bath time, then make food.

Tomorrow is a DIY day, so likely to be very busy. Not sure where I’m sleeping tonight.

Well I gave Jamie something useful…my cold

I started the day fine. Jamie sounded like an old woman. Pretty much how he sounds every morning. It’s actually very difficult with him to know when he actually has a cold, as he permanently goes around coughing and sneezing. I think that’s the first one I’ve ever managed to give him, usually he gives me the aftermath of some minor sneeze and it annoys me for a few days. This one’s coming up to two weeks now and I’m still get coughing fits. Anyway, I think it’s finally on it’s way out.

So today, still on physics, and likely to be there for quite some time. Managed to sort out a couple of problems that were annoying me. Still got one big one to fix and then I can move on to the next physics related task.

I must by a new mouse. The scroll wheel is buggered on mine. Actually it’s been like that for about two years, but now it’s finally really beginning to piss me off, so definitely time to go.

Went and did Pump. That was fine, was thinking about energy transfers, exciting stuff.

Managed to squeeze in some more Japanese earlier as I’m owed quite a few hours. On to Unit 4 now, so making good progress, but really need to work at it solidly. So another weekend of DIY planned, so bath and wine time. Let’s get the weekend started.

I apparently paid for someone’s boob job

Got up a bit later than normal, but I’m owed lots of hours. Once again, still on physics tasks. This time trying to debug a friction model. It’s more complex than you would expect, also quite annoying. Spent basically hours at it. Got it slightly better but there are still some problems. Also tried to figure out a velocity problem, that also got nowhere.

Jamie had the day off, spent the bulk of it in bed as he now has my man flu. When he eventually arose, which was early evening he came in and announced he had a weird dream. He apparently met a very large African gentleman who said he had the rights to half my money and he could prove this. Not only that, but I apparently paid for a boob job for someone. At least I guess he wasn’t having sex with Keith Lemon and the Spice Girls.

Worked till very late. Then did Japanese, all going well with that. Still no running, last of the man flu. Will go to pump tomorrow and then plan and going back to normal next week.

So coming up to two weeks of coughing

Actually woken by the alarm this morning, normally I pre-empt it. Took dog to daycare and went back to bed.

Spent a full day on physics work again, already owed an hour and a half, now I’m owed two hours. I’ll put it to good use though and do extra Japanese tomorrow and Friday.

Picked up the dog. Another day without running, coming up to two weeks now. I’m able to do pump and combat, but the thought of running, just isn’t in me yet. Still, doing plenty of good work.

Did another Japanese unit, I hope to complete them all before we go, but will need to make a pretty good effort.

Think I’ll have a bath. Worked hard today.

So applying 8000N to your axle and then -8000N is not a good idea

Started slightly later than normal, but I had an hour and a half in hand from yesterday anyway. Still feeling rather full of snot, so still no running today and still coughing for England.

Working on physics again, got everything working near enough how I want, but seem to be getting integration issues. It comes down to the fact when one side has a positive slip I’m getting a massive force sent back to the other, this causes everything to reverse and then it all goes horribly wrong. I think it will require some kind of damping, a hell of a lot of it.

So didn’t end up finishing any earlier in the end. But did my Japanese as planned, all went okay. Had a look at my mini wireless access point to take to Japan, that works really well, impressed with that, it’s about the size of a matchbox. Read my mechanics book, I was right, please about that.

Sat down, ate salad. Looked at curtains. I think a blind will be too expensive and not really practical, so I think I’ll go with curtains, sort of ringlet style. Still a few hundred quid though. Anyway, need to finish the room off first.

Tyres, annoying pieces of rubber

Actually started today vaguely on time. Working on physics again, this time quite a lot to do with tyres and the Pacejka tyre model. After lots of messing about I’ve got a got setup mostly working now apart from a few issues with integration at low speeds. Such is life.

Took the dog out, it was very cold. Was debating for ages if to go to combat or not, as still coughing like hell. I went in the end and I was mostly fine. Came back and then worked far too late. But I’m going to knock that time off tomorrow for sure as I need to get back on with my Japanese.

Time for salad and then bed I think.
