A new two grand system defeated by an eleven quid fan

So I spent the day deleting more stuff. Including some code I worked on a few years ago, which was perfectly good, worked well, but now with the modern platforms it no longer has a place. My new machine turned up. Doesn’t work. Traced problem to a dodgy CPU fan, just not spinning right so won’t boot up, very annoying. Walked dogs. Walked to gym, did Pump, walked home. Then went out and got two new local geocaches. Rang up Scan, spoke to someone who was actually a fan of our game, he’s sending out a new fan. So hopefully all sorted soon. Got the new version of Acronis. Did the washing. Pizza time. No idea whats happening with flying, it’s all down to the weather again.

By God I think he’s got it

So once again started a bit later than planned. But got straight on with it. By the end of the day I managed to get every single file stripped and that was around 700 of them. Courier turned up and delivered an egg box one and a GTX980 video card, that’ll go with the one in the new machine. The new machine is apparently arriving tomorrow, so that’ll take about a week to setup and migrate to. Sent a text to Captain James, he’s concerned about a couple of incoming cold fronts. Walked Dillon using Sasha’s harness, I hat to keep checking that I had the right dog, he was walking beautifully, I think he’s finally got the hang of it. Walked to Tesco’s, picked up a card for my nephew. Then walked home, filled it with cash and the walked to my sisters. Drank beer, got a lift home. Then spent two hours verifying and checking all those files in. More code stripping to be done tomorrow.

Then DX9 came back to haunt me

Started a little later than I planned but not having a great week keeping regular hours. Got stuck in anyway. Managed to find a web site that had all Dave Pearce ‘Delirium’ podcasts on it, so that’s music sorted for the next couple of weeks. Walked both Dillon and Sasha, oddly Dillon walked better than Sasha for the first time other, I wonder if it was because I had his harness on wrong and it wasn’t going right under him. I’ll try him on Sasha’s harness tomorrow. Then I was getting moaned at about one of the tools I’d updated to DX11, part of it wasn’t working. It was to do with some old DX9 code. I tried converting it to DX11 but all I kept getting was E_FAIL for some reason. Walked to gym. Did Pump, walked home. Then just created a DX9 device and let it use that, a bit of a hack but I’ve got loads of other stuff still outstanding that I need to get on with. Have an early night tonight I think.

Untangling 40M of network cable is quite cathartic

Started work at 8:30AM, so managed to get four hours in before taking Jamie into town to get his tattoo. Left him there and got the GPS out, one just round the corner from the tattooist. Got another three as well, on one in Castle Park, I was hunting around and heard a voice, “Excuse me mate but are you Geocaching?”. We got chatting, turns out he was ‘Comedy Dave’, seen his tag on a number of logs. Gave me the hint to the cache. Found another one afterwards. Then headed back to tattooist. Drove home and had lunch, did another couple of hours then walked the dogs. Did a bit more work and then went for a run. Ended up untangling about 40M of network cabling, just for amusement. Still no sign of new PC yet.

There is something satisfying about deleting old PS3 code

So spent basically the entire day deleting things. Mainly old DX9 code and then finally on to old PS3 and Xbox 360 code. It’s that time in the project cycle where we have a bit of a major clean up. So it’s time to say a final goodbye to DX9, PS3, Xbox 360, an awful grass system, small job system and vast amounts of code that I’ve written over the past nine years. Sad to see it go? No not really, it was cutting edge at the time and pushed the boundaries, but now it’s just bulk that doesn’t even get compiled anymore. I don’t think I’ve powered on my PS3 dev kit for over two years now. It’s almost ‘closure’. Walked Sasha and Dillon. Went to Combat, very hot. Came home and did a few more hours deleting.

How about if I just flick my pants off and then you can finger-bum me?

Woke up this morning to the above statement. I decided to have coffee and breakfast instead. We got up fairly early (well for us) on a Sunday and walked the dogs. I then had a quick lunch and relocated to Emersons Green. A number of Geocaches there, searched for all, got the lot. I left the car in Sainsbury’s, so had it washed while it was there. Came back and then relocated more towards Mangotsfield. Parked up and off I went. First two caches I had to leave as there were two many people around, then I walked off for another couple of hours and did a load more. Went back towards the car and then did the first two again. All sought, all found. So a good four hours of so there. Up to 427 now. Came back and logged all the caches and finally got round to finishing all my TripAdvisor reviews, including that wonderful hotel we stayed at in Nice, where we got eaton to death. Bath time, then Jamie’s cooking. Food that is, I have as much desire to eat him as to ‘finger-bum’ him.

So we visited a tattoo convention, there weren’t even any lesbians

So started this morning with breakfast and coffee and a read of the paper. Found that there was a tattoo convention down in the centre of Bristol. So walked the dogs and then had lunch. Oh, we did managed to have sex. Segway. So after waking up the first time and having a pee. I went back to sleep. Now this is weird. I had two dreams. One was about going out to a night club and getting shit faced and another was about having an affair. The first one is a bit dull so will skip over that, but the second one is more interesting. So I’ll skip over the guys name, okay, it was Simon, but I’ll skip over the surname. So for some reason we were on holiday in Turkey and I bumped into him. We ended up chatting and then ended up in his room. Then it all got kind of physical, I said I couldn’t do anything because I was married, and then worked out it was in his room and then bummed him twice. Is it wrong to have shag someone in your dreams? It was bloody good sex, I came twice, I can hardly do that in a week these days. In reality of course I did actually bum Simon, but oh, it was many many years ago. Anyway, Jamie and I did manage the bumming thing, it was pretty good, I am after all a bloody good top. So walked the dogs, had lunch and then descended into town and walked to this tattoo convention. It was a tad odd, felt a little uneasy, but everyone was very friendly. I picked up a number of business cards, found one artist with a style I really liked. Jamie got a quote for a line f text which was well overpriced and by a guy who couldn’t even speak English. Left there and went to the local tattooist where I had all my piercings done, he’s booked in for Tuesday. Bought some odd tat. Came home. Booked a holiday to Turkey for two and a half grand then went out and spent a hundred quid on dinner. That, I believe is a pretty good Saturday.

How can one shoe be in the cupboard and the other one be under the bed?

So this mornings lie-in was rudely interrupted by the shopping arriving early. I book an 11-12 slot for a reason, not to be delivered at 10:40. And oh, deliver it to the house of the dot com manager person as well. Tsk. Anyway, Jamie got up and dealt with it. I progressed to coffee and breakfast. Then on to work. Still on tools as my new PC has been delayed yet again. Went pretty well actually. At lunch time it was time to take the dogs out. It’s been very cloudy all day, but also very warm. I harnessed them all up and Jamie lumbered off the bed. Goes in the cupboard and finds one shoe. Then starts looking for the other one, which he eventually finds under the bed. Now how the fuck did that happen? Did he come in one day and remove the single shoe, then hop upstairs and chuck the other one under the bed? Fuck knows. Dogs had a nice long walk anyway. Ate salad. Did more work. Still looked very gloomy but walked to the gym. Did Pump. Walked home in a very light drizzle, it was quite pleasant actually. Got home. Removed DirectX 9 from trunk, a pleasure I’ve been waiting for for a very long time. We no longer support technology from 2012.

Pizza time. Not a bad week, must be said.

So the nearest Geocache is now over 3.5Km away

For some reason Jamie must have been very bored as he tossed me off this morning, may be he just needs to ‘woo’ me more. Back on tools. An animation viewer thing. Very frustrating pain in the ass. Walked Dillon and Sasha. Both were good. Managed to get out this evening, it was very very warm. Walked up to a cache at the top of Filton that was a DNF the first time, this time found in about ten seconds. Then walked back via an alternate route, which was longer, but nice evening. Did a tad more work, got this bloody thing working. Nearest caches are now well over an hours walk away. Dropped a text to Captain James, weather not good over the weekend.

What is my fascination with cheese?

Started fairly fresh. Still on tools. Had an email about my new PC, it isn’t going to arrive this week which is rather annoying. Cleaners arrived and cleaned. I walked Dillon and Sasha, each on their own, but today they did the same distance. Ate salad, with cheese. Walked to the gym, did Pump, walked home. Did more work. Ate salad with cheese. Jamie has informed me that we are going to a wedding for three days at the end of the month, it’s probably not up the road then. We have an invite for Italy as well, somewhere else where we won’t be going. Fancy some cheese.
