Sasha wins best in show

Well the day started with breakfast, letting the dog out for a piss, then me powering up and having a coffee. So nothing unusual there. But today was a bit special as we were taking Sasha to the Holly Hedge fun day at Ashton Court. I made sandwiches, cheese for me, ham for Jamie (too much detail may be). Jamie has yet another cold, so gave him lots of pills. We ventured out and attached dog to seat belt restraints, she’s actually very good travelling in the car.

I must admit, I’m very proud of her. Ger behavior was impeccable, she only attempted to knock a couple of people out. We entered prettiest female and came nowhere. We also entered waggiest tail and came fourth. We then entered best rescue and won it! We were then entered for best in show and won that as well, which I was totally amazed by. Sasha was unfazed by the whole thing. We had a really nice day and it was good to support the charity.

Came back and tidied up the office. Moved the server and the pfSense box into the network cabinet after hoovering it out. Shoved a load of boxes into the loft. Set up the ‘Sam Knows’ box. That’s all pretty much sorted now. Did the firewall rules for the outgoing mail server. I think everything is now pretty much complete. Just converting some videos for my phone for the holidays. Drank too much wine already, bath must be beckoning.

Saturday morning…dream time

I do enjoy Saturdays, it’s where I can get up slightly later than the lateness I get up during the week anyway. I think it’s still residual Prozac (now down to one tab every four days), but I do get wonderful dreams. Usually quite surreal and disturbing, but always fun. I do get a strange recurrent one, where I believe that I sold my house and end up living at my mothers. It then takes me a couple of hours to convince myself that this nightmare hasn’t actually happened.

Anyway, after dream session I found myself being way behind time wise as I had a lot to do. Needed to visit my sister and pick up a Freeview box for mother. So decided to take the dog out and walk there to save time, then ended up chatting for too long so put me back even further. Came back and had lunch, decided to do the shopping later or I’d never get out.

So then ventured into town where I needed to pick up a couple of waterproof Kagols for next weeks trip out (and possibly for tomorrow). That was achieved, so then off to mothers, where I had fun mainly one sided conversation about how she couldn’t afford to keep her car on the road. If she bought less crap from QVC that would probably do it.

Met up with Jamie and did the shopping. Came home and did the accounts, bathed the dog (she needs to look pretty for tomorrow) and now finally settled down. I think I’m going to have a quick bath now to make up for the lack of one yesterday. Already on the wine.

Tomorrow we are having a picnic out with Sasha for the Hollyhedge fun day. I’m sure that will descend into some kind of chaos. I really must then move the server into cabinet and tidy up this room, it’s a hell of a state. Oh, and probably have another bath.

OpenAL continues to be an ass, but iOS also presents some issues

So now the OpenAL saga continues. This time when testing on an iPod touch. As it has the power of a squashed tomato, I was getting buffer under runs when trying to decode about six MP3 tracks at once. So what happens when you get a buffer under run, well it queues the buffers as normal, and yes, marks all the bloody things as processed. So the work round for this was was to check the number of queued buffers, if that’s zero then call rewind, this resets the internal marker and every ones happy.

Sharing file handles between threads…on iOS don’t do it. It gets upset. Don’t open file on thread A, then read it using the same handle on thread B (they arn’t reading at the same time, it’s just opened on one then read on another). That threw me for quite a while as it was randomly working then failing. Still all sorted now. Now the next job is iOS hardware MP3 decoding.

In server news I’ve redone my apache configs to use the actual domain names now. Also added pop3 ssl in about 10 minutes, I’ve kind of got the hang of these things now. Final job on the server I think is to configure the UPS stuff, but can’t do that until it’s in place and can’t do that until I’ve reconfigured my mother (well her laptop mail setup).

I did head out on the bike, but by the time I got to the end of the road the weather looked very miserable, so took the dog for a walk instead. Now I’m going to have a bath and watch the Olympics opening ceremony.

The dog has a new pool. This is it before she probably ends up eating it.
